Colonoscopy

It is a medical examination that must be carried out to detect alterations or abnormalities in the large intestine, rectum and the end of the small intestine (ileum). On some occasions this test is performed to detect Intestinal Functional Disorders.
It is performed to evaluate the origin of abdominal discomfort, such as constipation, chronic abdominal pain, unexplained weight loss, study of bleeding episodes from the rectum or the appearance of blood in the stool.
When is a colonoscopy performed?
In general, it is recommended to perform a colonoscopy in those over 50 years of age if there is no risk factor, repeating it every five or ten years. If there were any risk factors, colonoscopy would be performed more frequently: Person with polyps at risk of malignancy: annual.
